Hypercity

Toronto, ON, Canada

Situated in the upcoming neighborhood of St. Lawrence in Toronto Canada, this building brings the idea of vertical, multi level design forward. This building combines a variety of programs including: residential, commercial, retail, light industrial and recreational spaces to create a small neighborhood in one city block. The basic snake typology allows for a variety of outdoor and built spaces, with towers extruding up. The form was decided after extensive studies of Toronto’s program layout, height studies and city/site circulation. Our building allows for multiple levels of open public spaces as well as a variety of closed spaces. The steel structure plays many roles for this building. While holding up the building, the diagrid allows for large column free spans, making more flexible floor plans. The circulation of the building is exposed through, angled cores, enabling one to have a visual connection from the outside with their route inside.
